Shariy did not like that the Ukrainian women at “Roland Garros” talked about Russian tennis players supporting the war
Pro-Russian propagandist and defendant in a case of child sexual abuse, Anatoliy Shariy, threw a tantrum over statements made by Ukrainian tennis players at “Roland Garros.” This is reported by “Glavkom.”
Shariy was displeased that Ukrainian women, during press conferences at “Roland Garros,” spoke about Russian tennis players supporting the war.
Shariy’s Statement
“I have been observing the performances of Ukrainian tennis players at “Roland Garros” for many days. Not their performances in a sporting sense, but in a political one. Every day they hold press conferences where they insult their Russian colleagues.
Their complaints about Russian players amount to the fact that Russian tennis players do not condemn Putin. Why are Russian tennis players even asked to condemn anyone? Why should they put their families at risk by making such statements? Why should they ruin their chances of ever returning to their homeland by making such statements? So that Ukrainian tennis players like it? So that someone gets another opportunity for PR?
Tennis players should play tennis. Tennis is a sport. If you don’t like your opponents, you can simply not go on the court and not play tennis. But the daily whining at press conferences about ‘bad Russian tennis players’ has become unbearable,” propagandist Shariy wrote hysterically on X.
Shariy’s Sentence in the Treason Case: What is Known
Vinnytsia City Court found Shariy, who is currently hiding in Spain, guilty of treason.
Shariy was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property, including his channels.
In 2023, the SBU charged Anatoliy Shariy with treason. The investigation established that he participated in the preparation and dissemination of staged videos where Russian Federation armed forces personnel interrogated Ukrainian prisoners of war.
“The staged’ plots by the Russian Federation were then used to artificially discredit the military-political leadership of Ukraine, including on the international stage,” the statement reads.
According to investigators, Shariy was involved in covert cooperation with a full-time employee of the fifth service of the FSB, Kosenko M. Yu., and a accomplice in temporarily occupied Sevastopol helped the blogger communicate with Russian special services. This accomplice turned out to be the former head of the National Police Main Directorate in Vinnytsia Oblast, Anton Shevtsov, who earlier this year was also charged with treason.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, since 2019, Anatoliy Shariy has been living in Spain, from where he “organizes pro-Russian PR campaigns, creates and disseminates politically biased tendentious stories of anti-Ukrainian content.”
Criminal Case Against Shariy Regarding Child Sexual Abuse
Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have reopened a criminal case against pro-Russian blogger and politician Anatoliy Shariy for child sexual abuse. This was announced on his show in 2022 by human rights activist Mark Feigin.
Feigin also showed a response to a request from the National Police, which stated the reopening of the case, as well as an extract from the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations.
“A criminal case against Shariy for the sexual abuse of minors under Article 156 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine was reopened just the other day. The National Police of Ukraine, specifically the Obolon district, is actively investigating,” Feigin noted. The data was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations on June 29, 2022.
The story of Shariy’s alleged pedophilia has been ongoing since 2017. Shariy’s sister, Olena Manchenko, a resident of the Netherlands, accused him of pedophilia. In an interview, she stated that when her brother lived in the Netherlands, children of his friends sometimes stayed at the apartment. And once, when only children and Anatoliy were at home, he allegedly offered one of them to pose for a photo in underwear.
