Ukraine continues to be a significant contributor of grain to the global market. For the 2025/26 marketing year, initial projections suggest the nation could export approximately 14 million tons of wheat, 25 million tons of corn, and 1.52 million tons of barley. This represents an estimated 6%, 12%, and 4% of the worldwide export of these crops, respectively.
This information was shared by Taras Vysotskyi, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agricultural Development, during an online address at the International Grains Council (IGC Grains Conference 2026).
“Even amidst the ongoing conflict, Ukraine remains a crucial element of global food security. We have maintained our export capabilities, adapted our logistics, and demonstrated the reliability of the Ukrainian agricultural sector to the international community. Our present objective is to generate greater value domestically. We already have notable successes: sunflower oil and meal, where Ukraine holds a strong standing, as well as bioethanol, whose exports have nearly tripled since the commencement of the full-scale war. Developing processing capabilities translates to job creation, investment, and a stronger position for Ukrainian producers,” stated Taras Vysotskyi.
It is increasingly vital for Ukraine to enhance the proportion of processed goods within its agricultural exports. This involves expanding processing to areas such as grains, soybeans, rapeseed, feed ingredients, biofuels, and the bioeconomy. Achieving this requires investment in processing infrastructure, access to financing, war risk insurance, consistent trade policies, alignment of standards with the EU, and investment protection.
Adopting this strategy will bolster Ukraine’s standing in international markets, improve export resilience, and yield greater economic returns from the agricultural sector.
