The government has expanded the reimbursement program for glucose test strips. Starting from September 2026, patients with type II diabetes on insulin therapy will receive them free of charge.
The government has decided to broaden the reimbursement scheme for blood glucose monitoring test strips. From September 2026, individuals diagnosed with type II diabetes who require insulin therapy will be able to obtain these strips at no cost. Previously, under the medical guarantees program, test strips were exclusively available to patients with type I diabetes; reimbursement for these medical supplies for that patient group has been in effect since 2023. This information comes from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, as reported by UNN.

As of September, the program’s scope will also encompass individuals with type II diabetes receiving insulin therapy.
It is noted that consistent monitoring of glucose levels is a crucial aspect of safe treatment for patients using insulin. Self-monitoring aids in the timely detection of excessively low or high blood sugar levels, facilitating therapy adjustments and helping to prevent the onset of acute and long-term diabetes complications.

“Affordable Medicines” is a state reimbursement program through which patients can acquire essential medications and medical devices either free of charge or with a partial co-payment, utilizing an electronic prescription. The National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU) reimburses pharmacies for the cost of these items within the framework of the Medical Guarantees Program.
To obtain medications or medical devices under the program, patients must consult their healthcare provider, receive an electronic prescription, and present it at a pharmacy that has a contract with the NHSU.
