Yaroslav Amosov: I am an MMA fighter – I can strike, grapple, and do everything
Ukrainian Yaroslav Amosov secured his second consecutive victory in the UFC, submitting Spaniard Joel Alvarez with a “triangle” choke in the second round, and then put on an unexpected show – he danced breakdance right in the octagon. This is reported by “Glavcom” citing data from the UFC 328 tournament.
First Round – Dominance in Grappling
In the first round, the fighters cautiously felt out the pace, avoiding an open exchange. However, Amosov quickly took the initiative: he took his opponent to the ground several times and controlled him securely, not allowing him to recover. The Spaniard tried to break free, but the Ukrainian’s pressure and dominance were so powerful that Alvarez could hardly respond.
Second Round – The Finish and Breakdance
At the beginning of the second round, the opponents exchanged strikes. Then Amosov lifted Alvarez and impressively slammed him to the canvas, after which he secured a “rear-naked choke” and forced the Spaniard to tap.
The record of the 32-year-old Amosov now stands at 30 wins with one loss. Alvarez (23–4) had his four-fight winning streak snapped.
Immediately after the victory, Amosov ran to the center of the octagon and unexpectedly began dancing breakdance. He performed a few moves, then spectacularly finished his celebration with his signature pose on his side. MMA fans on social media immediately noticed that such a celebration is well-known to fans of the EA Sports UFC video game series, where fighters can celebrate victories similarly.
“Give me someone from the top 10”
After the fight, Amosov briefly commented on the bout to Joe Rogan in the octagon. “It was a very good fight, but I know I can move even better. I love wrestling, but I am an MMA fighter – I can strike, I can grapple, I can do everything. Modern mixed martial arts is a sport of versatile fighters,” said Amosov. After that, he appealed to the UFC management to arrange a fight for him against an opponent from the top 10 welterweight division. Champion
The bout took place on the undercard of the UFC 328 tournament at the Prudential Center in Newark. The main event of the evening was the middleweight title fight between Khamzat Chimaev and Sean Strickland.
Recall, Amosov debuted in the UFC in December 2025, defeating American Neil Magny by submission in the first round. After that victory, he entered the UFC welterweight top 15 rankings.
Yaroslav Amosov is a native of Irpin, a four-time world champion in combat sambo. In June 2021, he became the first-ever Ukrainian Bellator champion, defeating Brazilian Douglas Lima. After the full-scale invasion began, the fighter joined the territorial defense forces and defended his hometown from the occupiers. After the liberation of Irpin, Amosov returned to the ruins of his mother’s house and found his championship belt hidden there – the photo went around the world.
